All was set for another Bellarine Saltwater Trip on the 26th of March with light winds and a sunny day expected. With plenty of good fishing reports coming through everyone’s sprits were high and ready for a big day on the water.
It was an early start, with most of 7 members making the drive up from Melbourne. All members choice to launch at Clifton Springs Boat Ramp with Richard ‘The Hoff’ Highlett going the extra mile to St Leonards which in the end payed off.
Although starting at Clifton Springs many tried other locations including Werribee, Ammo Pier, Avalon and Curlewis. With the bay still at a warm temperature, Pinkies were on the chew with Members Steve and Joe finding some good size models using pilchards for bait. The garfish were also busting up the surface with most members grabbing a taste feed of them.
Over at St. Leonards, The Hoff went to his old favourite marker and it produced a really nice mixed bag.
It’s worth noting there was also some nice calamari caught in close specifically at first light.
In the end, Steve won the comp with a beautiful bag of reds and a whiting followed by the Hollywood Star himself Richard with a mix of whiting, pinkies and flathead and Joe coming in 3rd with some nice Pinkies.
Suggestions were put forward for a weekend comp to assist with long travel times and as we know the area is so productive for quality fish.
