Near perfect weather conditions albeit a little chilly provided excellent angling conditions for the first of our winter trips to the Camperdown Angling lodge at Lake Bullen Merri. Hopes were high with overcast conditions and a slight north-west breeze prevailing on the Saturday. Five anglers set off trolling and the other four fished the bank. Both groups finding the fish hard to find with a wide variety of lures and bait being tried.
Five Chinook salmon and a beautiful brown trout were brought to scale on the Saturday. All fish were of good quality including the brown weighing 1.615kgs cleaned and the best salmon weighing 1.235kgs. Tassie devils and power bait were successful. Three anglers fished well into the night in calm conditions of the bank with no success.
Sunday was not better with another three Chinook weighed including a fish of 1.390kgs cleaned weight.
The best bag of fish was taken by Rod King with four salmon for 4.075kgs with Tony Dorner runner-up with two salmon for 2.605kgs.
Socially the trip was excellent with lots of fun, tall tales of previous fishing exploits and some fly fishing practice for our budding fly fishing champion (not Petras)
