Camperdown Area 12th -13 May 2018
Seven members and a junior made the trip to the Camperdown Angling Lodge at Lake Bullen Merri for the Clubs last event of the 17/18 freshwater competition season.
There was a lot of enthusiasm on Saturday morning with all anglers up and about very early to fish in very windy and drizzly conditions.
Some members trolled with early success but generally the fish were not cooperating. The Saturday only yielded 4 rainbow and 3 salmon. The best fish was a rainbow weighing 0.570kg and a salmon weighing 0.815kg.
The lake had dropped about 150mm as a result of pumping water from the lake to fight the recent bushfires and had suffered a couple of major algae blooms during the summer. This may have affected the fishing.
Sunday was better weather but the fish were still hard to find with only 2 salmon brought to scale including the best fish of the weekend taken by Richard Higlett. The salmon weighed 0.850kg cleaned weight. All fish were taken on Tassie devils or pilchard.
Richard Higlett proved to be the best angler with 3 rainbow trout and a salmon for a total weight of 2.390kg. Junior Jaxson Brandi put in a great effort for second best with 3 salmon for 2.075kg. A total of 9 fish were weighed for a total of 5.490kg.
Thanks to Camperdown Angling Club for the use of their lodge.
