Camperdown Area 17th-18th June
Nine very enthusiastic members visited the Camperdown Angling Club’s Lodge located on Lake Bullen Merri in what turned out to be fantastic calm and not too cold weather.
With the conditions so good Ken Ely cast a power bait to check out the action. The result was a 500gm rainbow with the one and only cast. The catch caused a ripple of excitement and optimism.
Members rose early to get cracking after a poor nights sleep due to some “top of the range” snoring. All boats were on the water before the sun rose. Some anglers started with trolling and others checking out the bait fishing. The fishing was patchy with a lot of small salmon being caught and released with some nice salmon and rainbows in the mix. The best fish caught was a salmon weighing 1.245kg cleaned taken by Rod King trolling tassie devils. Bernie Harris had the best rainbow of 0.725kg cleaned bottom fishing on bait. A total of 14 fish were brought to scale for the day. Richard Higlett spent a few hours trolling at Purrumbete for small redfin. All members weighed a fish.
Sunday was another ripper day after the fog lifted. All boats were out before dawn for the mornings angling. The angling was similar to the Saturday with some nice fish mixed with a lot of smallish salmon. Seven fish were weighed for the morning with Ray Martin bagging 3 nice salmon.
A total of 21 fish weighing 12.95kg were caught for the weekend. They included 15 salmon and 6 rainbow trout. The competition winner was Ray Martin with 4 fish 2.97kg with Rod King second with 3 fish weighing 2.310kg. Best baits were pilchard and whitebait and tassie devils proved to be the best lures.
