Essendon Masters Competition – 5th March 2017
18 anglers at the 10th Essendon Masters Competition held in excellent conditions represented the club. The weather was calm and overcast with a rising tide early on. Unfortunately the fish did not cooperate.
Numerous clubs were represented with about 80 anglers participating. Also in attendance were representatives of fisheries, Parks Victoria, BCF along with the MP and Councillors. Their attendance was great for the profile for angling in the State.
Essendon did an amazing job organising sponsors, which resulted in excellent prizes for the competition and raffle. Our competitors shared some of the spoils. Niki Duckstein won a $100 gift voucher for the biggest Bream caught by a lady. We won 5 prizes in the raffle, Gavin White won a fish sounder which he was very happy with.
Not a lot of fish were caught but it was not for the want of trying. Greensborough Angling Club won the team prize with a bag of 2.411 kg. The team average was 0.301kg per angler. Williamstown Sports A/C and Footscray A/C filled the placings with averages of 0.225kg and 0.167kg respectively. Preston Northcote struggled with an average of 0.060 kg all thanks to Niki Duckstein.
Niki was our only competitor to weigh-in with a bream and and a snapper weighing a total of 0.959 kg. The snapper weighed 0.539 kg. Many small fish were caught by others including a magnificent specimen of Tupong by heavenly Kevin, takes a lot of skill to land these whoppers.
The day was poor for angling but was a lot of fun.
