Gippsland Lakes 10th-12 June 2017
Twelve members and a potential new member joined together at the Bairnsdale Caravan Park on the Friday afternoon for a weekend’s estuary fishing. The weather forecast was great and the almanac was suggesting fantastic angling.
All anglers headed for the Mitchell River on Saturday bright and early with great anticipation. Unfortunately the fish were not that cooperative. Twentytwo fish were taken for the day but it was hard work. A lot of little fish were about with a few nice Bream in the mix. The day’s catch consisted of 10 bream, 9 mullet, 2 trevally and a taylor with the best fish being a 660 gram bream taken by Ken Ely.
Sunday proved no better with only six fish being brought to scale. Kevin Bamford showed his champion skills with a bream weighing 600 gram. Anglers fished the Mitchell, Nicholson and the Tambo.
The keen anglers headed out on Monday with only Dave Fairy being successful with a bream and a mullet. The Bream weighed 650gm that failed by 10gm to equal the best fish of the trip.
Dave’s Monday effort got him in front of his arch rival and good mate Denis Dowling to win the competition. A total of 14 Bream, 12 mullet, 2 trevally and 2 taylor were weighed. The best fish was a bream of 660gm taken by Ken Ely.
A very sociable trip enjoyed by all.
