Howqua Interclub and PNAC Competition 2nd – 3rd of September 2017.
Start of the trout opening saw 18 members entered in the Howqua Association Interclub Competition aswell as our own Club competition. All members arrived on Friday and some early arrivals managed to get a couple of hours of fishing before the competition started. John Costa managed to catch and release a 76cm Murray Cod in the lake, his lures still working well and hitting the target.
Saturday fishing had approximately half of the members fished the Lake and the other half fished the rivers and we had 3 members fish the "measured fish" competition. Weather was overcast and cool during the morning and day with some light rain. The night weigh in had 1 Yellow Belly from the lake and 14 Trout from the river included 3 Trout in measured fish competition.
The highlights from Saturday fishing: Phil Brandi fished the Delatite River and landed 3 Brown Trout totalling 2.145kg with the best Brown Trout at 1.065kg. Also fishing the Delatite River was Daniel Jennings, he landed 4 Brown Trout and 1 Rainbow Trout totalling 1.735kg, the rainbow trout weighed 0.310kg. Gordon McDonald managed to land a nice Yellow Belly of 1.470kg in the lake trolling "Bespoke Lure" made by John Costa.
The Howqua Interclub Association presentation took place Saturday night and was won by Preston Northcote Angling Club with 15 entries, 24 fish weighed in with a total weight of just over 8kg. The Dunlop Bays Water total weight was around 7kg, one of their members won the heaviest fish. Preston Northcote Angling Club where presented with the winning shield and the President John Deveson accepted on behalf of the all members. Immediatel after the presentation all members ventured over to the Dunlop Bayswater rooms where we all enjoyed a massive roast dinner and refreshments. Les Penrose won a slab of VB beer from the raffle and donated it to PNAC members.
Sunday was windy and some members ventured out to fish. 3 Trout where weighed in from both the Howqua River and the lake.
The final tally for the trip: 32 Brown Trout, 1 Rainbow Trout and 1 Yellow Belly for a total of 34 fish with a total weight of 16.22kg.
The Measured Fish Competition recorded 3 Brown Trout which measured 38.5cm, 37cm and 44cm respectively. The largest caught and released on a fly while dressed in TWEED was by Pedro Arvy in the Howqua river.
