Seventeen members represented the Club at the annual Essendon Angling Club Maribrynong Masters competition. Eight clubs were represented with varying numbers of competitors. The conditions were good considering the wind and rain on the Saturday evening however the fishing was a bit slow.
Our members weighed in seven fish for the competition but we featured in the prizes with Denis Dowling landing a snapper at 602 grams that won the best species other than bream and also the best bag for other species. Kevin Bamford won his first competition with the club with two bream for 1.112 kgs. The best was 666 grams. Ken Ely was runner up with two bream for 770 grams.
Best baits were bass yabby, chicken and scrub worm. Plenty of small fish were caught and returned.
The club did very well in the raffle winning 21 prizes. The sponsorship of Masters Hardware and BCF Angling ensured lots of prizes for the fishing and raffle. Plenty of tackle, tools ice boxes and BBQ’s were to be won.
A special vote of thanks to The Essendon folk led by President Martin Corkill deserve a special mention for their great effort in the organisation of the competition.
