Native Fish Catch and Release competition Yarrawonga Area, 17th – 18th February 2018
13 senior and 1 junior members fished the competition at Yarrawonga in great weather conditions. The Murray River is at normal level for this time of the year and water was clear. Fishing was slow to start, with lots of small fish returned. However, the Golden Perch (Yellowbelly) did come on the bite with 12 nice fish registered up to 52cm and 2 Murray Cod, one 59cm by 1st trip junior member in Jackson Brandi and one 66cm by Daniel Jennings who also returned a 37cm Silver Perch.
We gave the teams a fright with our no. 2 Team of Daniel Jennings, Andrew Brandi, John Costa and Daniel Trafford. Daniel Jennings effort a 66cm Cod and 52-50-50 Golden perch and a legal Silver Perch their best fish of the species, however the Native Fish Team won the competition, with Jackson Brandi’s Murray Cod that took out the best fish by a junior.
Not a bad result as approximately 80 anglers registered for the competition over several Clubs who had entered.
Plenty of great food to eat at the barbeque presentation with Brandi family and John Deveson winning raffle prizes.
Many thanks to our Teams and members who supported this competition and a great effort from all.
Les Penrose.
The results of our own Preston Northcote Competition resulted in having 2 Murray Cod, 12 Golden Perch and 1 Silver Perch, plus another 4 Golden Perch from non- members / competitors fishing within our club. Taken the measured fish results from the Catch and Release data in using NSW length to weight chart we then deduct 10% of the fish weight (live fish) to reach our own competition weights and PNAC fish schedule.
A total of weight of 26. 730kg for the fish release, plus 6,090 for the non-competitors fish. Daniel Jennings was our runaway winner with 11.250kg for his Murray Cod and 3 Golden Perch and his Cod weighed 5.220kg. 2nd Andrew Brandi 2 Golden Perch at 3.780kg and 3rd Daniel Trafford with 2 Golden Perch at 3.510kg.
Junior Jackson Brandi weight was also 3.510kg for his Murray Cod for the Junior Competition results.
Members worked hard for their fish, as those that missed out put in a great achievement for the Preston Northcote Angling Club
