It was great to see a good turnout for the second Port Albert working bee of the year. With Port Albert starting to establish itself as a great winter fishery updating the drainage on the block was the main priority so as to give us year round access to the lodge. A new security door was also to be installed as well as heaps of road fill to be spread across the low lying areas that are prone to flooding.
Young Julian Costa and Daniel Trafford, our apprentice plumbers, looked after the drainage side of the project and directed the project with aplomb. Under their watchful eyes the storm water drains were dug, laid and backfilled. Both lads worked their backsides off to complete the work in a day. A very professional job was the outcome. Well done men.
Frank Calleja and Rod King fitted the security door and then finished off the trimming and welding of the garage doors. The gravel moving, spreading and packing was undertaken by Joe Psaila, Jason King, Richard Higlett and Flash (Gordon). Frank Calleja and Rod King John Costa also helped out with the gravel. Joe Grech and Frank Calleja cleaned out the garage and did a tip run. All the rubbish that had accumulated over a period of time finally sorted and gotten rid of. Joe Grech and Bob Beeson were also in charge of lunch and dinner detail. Pasta was for lunch with some pasta sauce that was made by John Costas' wife.
Saturday night all enjoyed a BBQ put on by Joe Grech and Joe Psaila. Thanks guys for the great food and desert.
The boys also got the chance to sit around the fire. Many thanks to Joe Grech for donation of the truck drum and Rod King for fitting the legs to the drum. The end result was a fire tub that is going to keep a lot of members warm around the fire. Julian Costa also fitted the fire extinguisher to the kitchen.
A special thank you must go to Julians employer who was kind enough to loan us his whacker and let Julian have Saturday morning off.
Thank you to all the members that contributed their time and efforts over the course of the weekend. A special thanks to Frank for organizing the security door, Julian for organizing the whacker, Julian and Daniel for organizing all the piping and parts required to complete the drainage work. Thank you also to Ron De Bono for the donation of a washing machine. It will definitely come in handy when we have people staying at the lodge for a few days.
