On the 22nd of September, 11 members heading to Werribee for our saltwater competition. Most members were on the water by 8am with a few heading towards 'the split' to try for some calamari. White and orange jigs working well in 3-4m deep weedy areas. Other members targeted the tasty 'frogs' or flathead with most having success at some smaller mods.
Gusman and Goldy baited up for an early season Snapper. Although no Snapper were caught, something big certainly enjoyed their bait with a seal enjoying a free snack!
Although the morning was near glass like conditions with bright sun, the afternoon turned windy with most members calling it quits by lunchtime.
The final weigh-in saw myself take the honours with 7 squid for 2.82kgs, Stu Taylor with 6 squid coming in second for 2.18kgs and Tony Coon taking bronze with a nice feed of flattys for 1.75kgs. Special mention to Geoff for his first saltwater trip and weighing in 4 squid.
On a side note some of the calamari was shared and cooked that night with other members proving fresh is best!
