A total of 14 Club members participated in this years Competition.
Many members took the opportunity to start bright and early on Saturday, many of which launched off at Queenscliff while others headed for the Clifton Springs/Port Arlington area. It was a lovely sunny Spring day with low wind. As the day progressed, there was some chatter among members that there were some cracker calamari being caught. The excitement built over the day. Who would have the biggest! Who would have the most? Who would have the heaviest? Members gathered at Joe's garage in the evening to show the fruits of their labour. It didn't disappoint! Wow: Joe Perri and Tony Valier D'Abate bagged out - their biggest calamari was 1,42kg and 2.18kg respectively. Peter Antonello only caught 3 but one of them was a massive 2.22kg Calamari at a length of 46.5cm! The biggest for the competition. A total of 49 Calamari were presented by 10 members. A good portion were in the 30cm + and a few at 40+ cm hood length category.
Sunday was windy (up to 25 knot NW) in comparison to Saturday but it did not stop a handful of members braving the chop to have a go at Queenscliff. Guido Bui and Peter Antonello decided it was too windy for Calamari so headed up the Barwon River to chase other fish. This delivered 35 good size salmon using soft plastics and bait! Only 3 Calamari were presented by 2 members on the final day.
Competition outcome in order of weight (from Heaviest) Tony Valier D'Bate, Joe Perri & George Kapouleas. Interestingly, The Captain and two referees for the competition :-).
A Competition total of almost 40kg of Calamari was weighed in.
Big thanks to Joe Perri for hosting some members at his house!
As always, sensational food, robust conversation and great company with all looking forward to the next outing.
George Competition Captain.
