July 29-30 Camperdown District
Fourteen members and a junior fished the Camperdown and District competition based at the Camperdown Angling Club’s lodge.
Unfortunately the wind sprung up on Friday night to gale force strength and continued through the Saturday. John Costa managed to get his Haynes Hunter on the water at Purrumbete but all other boats stayed on shore. A number of anglers headed to the north side of the lake with some success whilst others went to Deep Lake for no joy. Some members fished into the wind on Saturday afternoon near the lodge for some nice rainbows.
Despite the conditions, 19 fish were weighed on the Saturday with Atillio Di Cori landing the best fish, a Salmon that weighed1.340kg cleaned. Andrew Brandi, who drove all the way from Yarrawonga, had 5 salmon for 3.555kg taken on chunks of pilchard. Other successful baits were whitebait, scrub worms and power bait. Richard Higlett caught the best rainbow weighing 0.825kg cleaned.
Sunday was a much calmer day and boats could be used. A number of anglers chose not to fish but the result was not great. Only 6 fish were weighed for the day with Andrew Brandy doing best again with 2 Salmon weighing 1.385kg. Two members chased the redfin at Purrumbete with only a 32cm fish being registered.
The winner of the competition was Andrew Brandi with 7 salmon weighing 4.490kgs with second place going to Atillio Di Cori with 2 rainbows and the best salmon for 2.670kgs.
Two members stayed an extra night in much better conditions with Ray Everest catching a lovely Salmon weighing an estimated 2kg on power bait.
