Howqua Area / Nillahcootie fresh water comp March 09,10.11- 2019
Saturday:
4 members attended this event. The members stayed at the Howqua lodge with much anticipation of the native fish on the chew and a good weather forecast. Stan Petkovic bank fished Lake Nillahcootie and caught a beautiful Murray Cod of 64cm on marinara mix from the deli department. Tony Dorner, Richard Higlett and Ange Dawson also fished Nillahcootie with some nice yellow belly caught on yabbies and worms. The day was ideal for fishing with quite a bit of smoke haze from a fire at Licola. That evening, 5 fish were weighed in with Stans Murray Cod weighing in at 4.300g
Sunday An early start saw Richard and Ange fishing Eildon. Targeting natives in the Goulburn arm and trolling lures the pair found the going hard. Later in the day whilst the boat was tied up to trees Ange and Richard caught some nice redfin. The wind on that day was due to increase at 2pm and a huge wind squall rolled through with sheet rain. Richard managed to get Ange back to the safety of the Gough’s bay boat ramp, but both were drenched to the bone. Tony fished Nillahcoutie for a nice yellowbelly of 1.085g and Stan went fishless.
Monday A beautiful morning saw all of us at lake Nillahcootie. Despite perfect Lake conditions and lots of effort no fish were caught to weigh in.
A total of 8 fish were caught over the long weekend. They comprised of, 1 cod, 5 yellow belly and 2 redfin. The final weigh in saw Stan Petkovic leading with a bag weight 4.305grams Then Tony Dorner with a bag weight of 2.410grams And Richard Higlett with a bag weight of 1.395
