Lake Fyans Area fresh water comp 21-22 April 2018
Saturday
10 members attended this event.
The members stayed at the Lake Fyans Caravan Park. Ray Martin and Ray Everest and friends were camping on the Lake in the Pontoon boat.
The weather over the two days was stunning with the backdrop of the Grampians combined with beautiful sunsets.
The lake was at 76% and come Saturday, had members on the water early. Trolling Tassie Devils was the go to for most.
Richard and Gordon were on to the fish early with Richard boating two browns averaging 30cm. Smaller fish were caught but released.
Ray Martin and Ray Everest where catching fish also but chose to release them.
Daniel Trafford and Julian Costa were having trouble with a leaky boat, but despite this Daniel weighed in a small Brown.
John and Bernice Deveson worked hard for the fish, with Bernice out fishing John for a nice brown trout of 28cm.
Tony Dorner went fishless as did Les Penrose who fished the banks near the wall.
By the end of the first day 4 trout were weighed in the largest of which was 280g cleaned.
Saturday night socialising included a lovely meal at the Park Bistro attended by 14 of us. A special thanks to Tricia Mcdonald, Dawn Penrose and Bernice Deveson for adding some sensibility to the night and pulling up the blokes and their tall stories. Also thanks to the Knox boy’s for their interest in attending the weekend away.
Sunday
It was a foggy and cold morning. On Richards boat, Gordon had his rod bouncing early and boated three good Brown’s by 10am. With the weigh in at 12pm, The comps Leading contender, Richard was looking down in the mouth with nothing working for him. Needing fish, Richard switched his Tassies over to finally get hit by a bigger rainbow of 595g. This was followed up by a reasonable brown.
Meanwhile Julian Costa was catching fish, whilst Daniel was bailing water.
Tony Dorner and the Deveson’s failed to catch. The Two Ray’s caught fish but released them.
At the weigh- in, Richard prevailed with 4 fish for 1.315g whilst Daniel Trafford, 4 fish for 920g, and Gordon Mcdonald 3rd with 3 trout for 895g.
A total of 14 fish were caught for the weekend with the largest fish, a rainbow of 595g cleaned.
This compared with only 2 redfin last year.
Thanks to Richard Higlett as Captain. Tony Dorner and John Deveson, thank you.
