Maribyrnong River Trip- 20th Jan
Preston Northcote members headed down to the Maribyrnong River on a beautiful sunny Melbourne afternoon for our first trip of the year on the 20th of January.
Seven Members competed with a range of areas fished including the Anglers Club, Dyson Road, Fisher Parade and many more spot x’s. Tom and myself spotted large model Bream within minutes of reaching the water in the protection of the rubbish collection device floating on top of reasonably clean river (at least for an inner city river). After many attempts by all members the fishing started slow. Prawns, scrub worms, white bait, yabbies and soft plastics were all thrown at the bream with bait coming up trumps. Plenty of undersize models were netted including some 28cm models making us wonder why we didn’t make the easy 20 minute drive to a thriving fishing spot more often. With the tide rising quickly the reigning Surf/Estuary champion, Kevin ‘King of Bream’ Bamford really flexed his muscles with a beast of a bream caught late in the day went 42cm and 1.14kg. The photo doesn’t do its size justice. That was the only weighed in fish so he takes the chocolates for this comp.
All I can say is watch out Maribyrnong Masters, PNAC team are in training and ready to put on a display!
