Trip Report – Marlo 23rd-25th February 2018
The annual trip to Marlo was well attended by ten members and two guests. Most members arrived on Thursday to prepare for the Friday start to the competition. The conditions were excellent with the weather being warm and calm. A few intrepid members had a go at netting some prawns with some success although there was a lot of escapees under the net. Practice makes perfect!
Most members got out on the water early on Friday and generally headed to the Brodribb River. Conditions were great but nobody told the fish and a poor catch resulted on the first day with only 7 fish being brought to scale. Dave Fleming did best with two nice bream that weighed 1.30kgs. a lot of effort for little return. The anglers almanac tells lies again!
Saturday was better with 19 fish weighed with Rob Richards starring with a great bag of six Bream for 2.88kg caught on fresh prawn. Rob is allergic to prawns so he cannot touch them as a result his fishing buddy Denis Dowling had to bait his hooks. Denis never got a bite. He had a bit of a “hang dog” look at the weigh in.
The day was really hot and humid but a massive thunderstorm and rain cooled the temperature and the thoughts were for better fishing on the Sunday. Wrong!
The day started with nice overcast skies but deteriorated as the morning went on. Most got off the water as more heavy rain approached. Only two bream were brought to scale.
The best bait for the weekend was fresh local prawns. Matt Miller took a couple of fish on chubby lures.
A total of 24 Bream, 3 flathead and 1 mullet were weighed for the trip weighing 12.90kg. The winner was Rob Richards with 6 bream and a flathead for 3.18kg. N
ot a lot of fish but a great weekend.
