Six members and a couple of guests fished the Lakes area based on the caravan park on the Nicholson River at Bairnsdale. All members were successful in catching fish that included Bream, Estuary Perch and lots of Mullet. The weather and river conditions were excellent.
A total of 112 fish were weighed for 27.8 kgs that included 99 mullet, 12 bream and an estuary perch. The best baits were sandworm and to a lesser extent prawn. Tony Coon was the big fish specialist with two bream measuring 38 and 41cm respectively. The best bream weighed 1.225kgs. Plenty of angling fun to be had with fish of that size.
Frank Calleja won the competition with 48 mullet and 3 bream for a total of 11.6kgs followed by Denis Dowling with 19 mullet and 3 bream for 5.35kgs. Frank clearly demonstrated superior angling skills on the weekend.
An enjoyable social weekend of fishing action with some good fish taken.
