The weekend started off with 7 members Bryan, Gavin, Peter, Tony, John Jason and Myself and 1 non-member (Ian) heading down the highway to Port Albert for a spot of fishing.
The weather, and most importantly, the wind was looking good for a few days.
On Friday night Jason and I were sitting around the fire talking how we never go out for a night fish. So we decided to give it a go and headed off to Port Welshpool, we hit the water after midnight and had the rod’s in the water by 1:00am.
It was a beautiful night, no wind, gentle seas but unfortunately the fishing gods were not on our side; we had a few runs but only caught Port Jacksons, Banjos and a few sting rays.
The boys that went out on the Saturday at Port Albert didn’t fare much better except for Tony Coon who did the hard yards and came back with a nice bag of Flathead to around the 9 kg mark.
Bryan caught 4 fish for .8kg, Gavin 1 snook for 1.05Kg.
On the Sunday we all got up to a day that was just perfect for Port Albert, the sun was shining but again No Wind. Jason and I had decided to chase the Whiting so we packed our rods into the boat along with our good luck Whiting charm Bruiser our little Jack Russell. While watching all of the bigger boats racing past us for an hour and only 3 whiting in the boat it was decided to head back to the ramp , take the dog home and pick up the heavier rods and head out side and get a feed of flatty’s and hopefully pick up a Gummy. We brought back 21 Flatty’s threw back lots more along with lots of Gurnard.
John had decided to take our visitor Ian outside to chase some Gummy’s and I’m pretty sure he was glad he did as Ian landed a nice 15kg gummy. They also got some nice flatty’s.
The guys fishing inside had to work hard for their fish with only Tony 4 and Gavin bringing back fish for the weigh in.
Monday was a totally different weather again with plenty of wind and lots of rain, Tony was the only person to venture out into the weather, for his efforts he brought back more fish for the weigh in.
Tuesday we all went home and no one went fishing.
End results was the guys all had a good weekend away utilising one of the clubs lodges with Tony winning the S/E and Bryan coming in second while the S/W went to myself and John coming second.
