Port Albert, Saltwater and Surf Estuary Competition 22nd-23rd of February 2020
With a few early starters arriving on Thursday and the rest of the members and non-members arriving on Friday.
All up we have 5 entries fishing the Saltwater competition and 13 entries fishing the Surf Estuary competition.
The forecast in weather was looking pretty good for the weekend and Sunday even better. Although light winds the mosquitoes and midges were out targeting exposed skin so everyone needed to have protection on all day and night.
With the light winds the Saltwater entries were able to get outside and over the 2 days produced some fine catches of Gummy Shark, Flathead, Nanoguy and Snapper. The largest gummy taken weighed 9.1kg by Alf Breci and Peter DeSensi hauled in a massage Snapper of 6.2kg. Steve Gusman and Peter Goldsworthy also had some fines catches
59 Fish were weigh in or a total weight of 75.35kg.
The Surf Estuary competition also had some nice fish in Flathead, Whiting, Salmon, Mullet, Pike and squid. Final weigh 77 fish for 20.25kg.
Dave Fairy landed some nice Flat head and Whiting, also Guido Bui got onto the Flathead and Squid alongside John Deveson. Just about all members caught fish and good fish.
Port Albert Lodge was excellent and all members enjoyed the time we shared.
The ramp proved slippery at times and you needed to be careful as Ray Everest and Eric Visser found out when they fell.
The highlight of the competition and bad luck for Kevin Bamford as Bamford Charters broke down on the entrance to Midge Channel and Devo’s Coast Guard Rescue had to save the day and tow Kevin back to the ramp. Kevin said it was George’s fault because he didn’t come on the trip.
Kevin could not get his boat repaired and left Sunday morning.
All other members are encourage to send in their photos of the week end.
