Port Albert Surf Estuary Comp 27th-28th April 2019
Most members arrived Wednesday afternoon. Thursday’s fishing was hard. Wind was averaging 15-20 knots in a westerly direction. Squid fishing was almost impossible with a drift rate over 4kms an hour.
Friday was worse with rain and wind making fishing very difficult. The entrance was very sloppy. Surf fishing was also difficult with wind almost driving the incoming waves sideways as the hit the shore.
A discussion was held on Friday night to decide to terminate the competition early but members decided to persevere.
On Saturday T Coon D Dowling and K Ely braved the conditions and launched from the Albert river at around 8am. They returned at 6 pm (11 hours) with 10 fish. Both Rays fished and found some whiting grounds, but again very tough conditions.
On Sunday D Fairy tried to fish but came back fairly quickly.
