Fishing Reports

Salt Water Port Albert Summer Fun

12th - 13th February 2016
by John Costa

Six members braved the uncertainty of high winds and inclement weather to try their luck at Port Albert this weekend.

Rod, Jason and Blinky headed out to Cliffy and surrounding islands hoping to tangle with some Kingfish that had been marauding the bait schools of late.

John Costa and crew had a late night and fished gentleman’s hours.

The Saturday turned out to be a pearler with a light north easterly winds and a relatively flat Bass Strait.

John and crew fish the reef out in front of the Port Albert entrance for instant success. John brought a lovely little gummy on board in the first ten minutes after anchoring. The shark was 79cm long and weigh 5.86 kg clean. Julian caught a nice Flathead of 45cm that took a whole live slimy mackerel. The poor fish choked on the offering. Talk about biting off more than you can chew.

Rod, Jason, and Blinky persisted at Cliffy until late in the day, the Kingfish just didn’t want to play.

Rod took the lads to one of his favorite drifts where they caught their fish. Highlight for them was Blinky’s gummy that weigh 4.42 kg clean.

Sunday was wipe out as the winds were blowing 35 to 40 knots.

Great trip had by all involved. Note to the cook of the trip. You must have some vegetables and salads with your meals.
